The Steelwork is in, so we now have the open plan kitchen dining space supported and ready to work with.
Next we installed fireboarding and insulated the kitchen and hallway floor with 100mm Celotex positioned in-between the newly laid floor Joists.
Ply boards are tacked on top and the gaps filled with expanding foam. This is all now ready for the self levelling compound, electric underfloor heating and final tile finish.
The existing kitchen window is replaced with a black framed Aluminium Crittall style double glazed unit. The interior design of the kitchen is going to include dark units, Copper surfaces and sleek modern accessories so this style of window will work well.
The addition of a set of double french doors opening up onto the garden should help the space feel lighter and more open, however the existing lintel was not fit for purpose as it consisted of a large, heavy, cast lintel resting in the centre of a small, thin lintel (the remnants of an old doorway) and a mock soldier course on the exterior brickwork. We removed the existing ‘support’ and added in the correct sized steel and soldier course, after which our friend Sean from CKS installations fitted the beautiful double doors to match the new window.
Once the doors and windows went in we could finish plaster boarding the room ready for plastering.
