44 poets speciality coffee shop signage, bold black and white

44 Poets is an independent speciality coffee house set in the heart of Hove’s Poet’s corner. From concept to completion, we took this project from an idea through to the finished article. With Scandi inspired tones and colours, and a full bi-folding front window wall, 44 Poets is a vibrant and welcoming addition to the area.

geometric slatted timber bar in 44 poets coffee shop

Constructed in timber, with a black Quartz worktop, the functional bar area is the central hub of 44 Poets. The eye is immediately drawn to the clean lines and geometric pattern created by the Pine slats, a key aesthetic feature of the shop.

Showing off the huge range of speciality coffee products was a key point on the brief. We achieved this by fabricating a Steel frame to sit oiled Birch Ply shelves atop. Maximising display space without encroaching on the serving area.

A simple yet effective detail, the tiled border set into the floor around the bar echoes the geometric patterning above. Colour matched to the windows and bar top, in keeping with the theme of the shop.

Fabricated in our workshop, the freestanding benches and table, and the bar style window seating were constructed in Mild Steel and Oak, these give an industrial yet warm feel to the seating area.

Seen from the road, this simple yet effective feature wall quietly dominates an otherwise insignificant section of wall facing the front window. Constructed in the same materials as the bar, complimenting each other perfectly.

frontage of 44 Poets coffee shop, black fascia with large bifold windows

Painted in black, the exterior of 44 Poets is bold and unforgiving, yet warm and inviting, helped by the fact that the whole frontage is glazed and opens up as a bifold window.

From meeting Robin at Johnson Bespoke I knew they were able to understand what I wanted to achieve with the fit-out and that it would be carried out professionally and with an eye for detail. The quality of the workmanship exceeded my expectations, with a quality focus on the smallest details that have really help set us up for success. Customers love our handmade and hand finished carpentry and metalwork and the application of our brand – which was a hard thing to adapt into a physical space, but Johnson Bespoke perfectly executed it. We’d continue to use Johnson Bespoke for any further shopfitting as the business grows knowing we’d be in good hands.
