PROJECT OVERVIEW

‘Make me a cool bed’ was the strict brief set by the client for this project. The Regency bed is super-king size but does not look imposing in such a large bedroom. Understated yet super comfortable. A great piece of functional furniture for a Victorian bedroom.

BRIEF

The Regency bed was bespoke made for a period property in St Leonards on Sea, which was recently featured on architect George Clarke’s Channel 4 programme ‘Old House New Home.’

VISION

By using cast iron bannisters from the original (but now not in use) staircase, we achieved a Victorian period aesthetic on a modern steel-frame bed. Using box section steel for strength on the main frame, steel tube formed the ends of the bed once welded to the original cast iron bannisters. A classical William Morris style grape and leaf design was brought back to life after sandblasting various layers of old paint off.

STYLE

Finished in a gloss black powder coat, Scenic painter Josh Corbett added the final touches to ‘age’ the fresh gloss coat. Pine slats and Steel cross braces support the mattress whilst keeping the bed rigid and preventing any squeaks.
